Usually deals with a girl ghost named Yamamura_Sadako inflicting her curse upon the film's main characters by way of a haunted video tape. It originated as a book written by Suzuki Koji. However, the 1998 film directed by Nakata Hideo is the most well known entry in the franchise. This film was remade in America in 2002 and started a trend of remaking various Japanese horror films. The character Yamamura_Sadako has made a large impact on Japanese pop culture and is one of the most well known examples of a long- haired ghost girl. She is also an inspiration for Kimi_ni_Todoke's Kuronuma_Sawako's design. Kuronuma's resemblance to Sadako is a plot point as it is one of the reasons why Sawako has been socially ostracized.
