Now Viewing: cloud_strifeTag type: Character クラウド・ストライフ A young man with blonde spiky hair. He wears dark clothing and has one armored shoulder pad on his left shoulder. He wields a giant sword, called a Buster sword, in combat and places it on his back when he's not fighting. He is the main protagonist and hero of Final_Fantasy_Vii. He is an experienced ex-Soldier who is hired by the rebel group AVALANCHE to act as their muscle. However, his relationship with them is awkward at first due to his aloof and standoffish personality and insistence that he's only a mercenary. He is closer to his childhood friend Tifa Lockhart who introduced him to AVALANCHE, but even this relationship has some awkwardness both because the two haven't seen each other in years and also because Tifa finds something a bit odd about her long lost childhood friend but can't quite figure out what. He also develops a close relationship with the kind-hearted and sociable flower seller Aerith Gainsborough. Aerith, Tifa, and spending more time with AVALANCHE gradually cause Cloud to soften his demeanor as he steadily comes to see them as his true friends. However, Cloud suffers from persistent splitting headaches. He often has visions of what could be memories or even hallucinations, Cloud isn't sure which. As he progresses in his quest, he learns some harsh truths about himself that force him to reevaluate everything he's ever known. He was designed to be a character that would both stand out and be a clear cut protagonist that the game's story would revolve around. Director Kitase Yoshinori noted that Final Fantasy VI had more of an ensemble cast with no clear lead character and he sought to make FFVII different from that. This was one of the reasons why Nomura_Tetsuya designed Cloud with his iconic spiky blonde hair. He is one of the most iconic characters of not only Final Fantasy VII but also the Final Fantasy franchise in general. He was voted the 2nd most popular video game character of all time in a 2008 Oricon poll. Accordingly, he is the most prolific Final Fantasy character in terms of appearances outside of his home game. He was a big influence on many subsequent JRPG heroes with Final Fantasy XIII's heroine Lightning Farron, being conceptualized as a genderswap of him. He was originally voiced by Horiuchi_Kenyu in the arcade version of Ehrgeiz, but was replaced Sasaki_Nozomu for the home release. Starting with Kingdom_Hearts in 2002, he was voiced by Sakurai_Takahiro who has played him ever since. Unlike his Japanese seiyuu who are all experienced anime voice actors, Cloud has been voiced by actors more known for live action work in English. He was voiced by Steve Burton from Kingdom Hearts until Final Fantasy VII Remake where he was replaced by Cody Christian.
