New post rating: General (report misuse here)
Posted on: 05/22/22 07:58PM

A new rating has been added to Gelbooru. Users are now able to rate posts as General, which is for posts that are 100% safe for work. In the near future, the Safe rating will be renamed to Sensitive. Sensitive is for sexy, suggestive, ecchi, or otherwise not 100% safe for work content.

Examples of General content:

G-rated, completely non-sexual, completely safe for work content. Things you can safely view in front of others.
Fully clothed characters, innocent comics and 4komas, portraits, faces, chibis, cute things.
Scenery, still life, no humans, text-only pages, food focus, animal focus, SFW pokemon, animals, and other things without people.

Examples of Sensitive content:

Ecchi, sexy, risque, or suggestive content, even mildly so.
Skimpy or revealing clothes (including swimsuits).
Anything focused on the ass, breasts, cleavage, feet, armpits, etc.
Anything not G-rated, not 100% safe for work, or not safe to view in front of others.
Anything you're not 100% sure is General.

Within the next few weeks, General ratings will be mass added to posts uploaded by the Danbooru importer that are rated General on Danbooru. While we may have a different bar for Sensitive vs. Questionable, both sites have the same criteria for General posts, so this should pose no issue.

If you would like to help out, add "-user:danbooru rating:safe" to all of your searches when editing ratings. And please, after looking through those Danbooru favgroups I linked, if you're not 100% sure about something being G rather than S then leave it as S.

If you see any users misrating posts as G, please use this thread to bring attention to it so that a moderator can let them know. Additionally, if you have any doubts about a post's rating then feel free to ask in this thread, or in Gelbooru's Discord server: discord.com/Zxs9tPE

This is something that we are copying from Dan?

Guess it makes sense. So many "safe" posts imported by Danbot aren't really safe. And they were a pain to work with.

At this rate the entire first page will be sticky. Anyway I hope we won’t base mass abuse from trolls.

Haha. Quite true, there are so many. And a few useless ones, like the Gardeners thread, nuke that one.

By the way, rating modifications count as tag edits?

What you're referring to as tag edits are actually post edits. Changing the rating, source, title or tags, and even deleting a post, all count as post edits and will make a new version. Even saving the post without actually editing anything will create a new, albeit empty, version (please try not to do this).

Alright, I guess they don't change the tag edit count. That happened to me a few times, by mistake of course.

But rating:safe exists.

Why not? What does it do that you prefer us not to do it?

Lol.

I've basically had this gripe for years, but hadn't spoken out because I thought "Well, who the hell would actually use gelbooru for safe content?". And the existence of safebooru (a site which I have only used maybe about once or twice) made me think it was a pointless endeavor.

However, adding a new rating with that name isn't much better. "General", "Safe (sensitive)", "Questionable", are still misleading and dodgy terms. "Safe" was always not often all that safe, and "Questionable" often gets into what would be considered mature 17+ content. It's not "questionable" content if a female characters' nipples are visible with highly sexualized, big titties.

An ESRB-inspired rating is a better approach. E for completely safe content (the "general" option), T for mildly risque content (the "sensitive/safe" option), M for strongly suggestive content (the "questionable" rating) and A for explicit content.
